Phone-A-Friend

Dearest Blog-land,

We are finally reaching the point of - 'OMG this is really happening'sville". And as you know we (aka "I") haven't exactly gone overboard on the prep work yet (i.e. hello zero's-ville!)

Oh and incidentally my well thought out plan to break the big news to the rest of my family already has hairline cracks as my brother (sister-in-law and second youngest neice) accidentally got their dates mixed up and turned up to our family luncheon last Saturday instead of this Saturday - oops & bugger - and as luck would have it now can't get to lunch this Saturday because of a first birthday party somehwere else (crap & crap) - and yes I'm sure they would come to this luncheon if they really knew what was going on but then having to tell them feels like spoiling it and/or guilting them into going etc and blah blah that's just not how I wanted it to go down etc and it's hard to explain but  .... sigh and ahhh. So  now I have to go down and tell them separately the night before everyone else gets to hear because that's the time that suits best etc and yeash deflating balloons and all that - but that's just how life is isn't it? So move on...

Ok so probably the REAL reason why I am blogging tonight is to ask the big ol 'DELHI ACCOMMODATION QUESTION ... (yes - that old chestnut people...).

Clearly I need to give some serious consideration to booking something to sleep in soon  ... but procastination works well for me too so let's just say ummmm - the day following our next positive scan result (?). Anyway with this in mind I would REALLY appreciate some honest feedback from our surrogacy vets out there (as well as our more-well-prepared-than-me) SCI Bloggers who have already sorted this sort of stuff out!

PLEASE! IF you have already stayed or booked any of the following accommodation options within the last few years please tell me/us - what you liked most about it (or why you've booked it) - what you liked least about it and whether you would stay there again (i.e. whilst awaiting the delivery of your baby and then the exit India process)..............

And the nominees are :

1) SVELTE HOTEL
2) INDIA LUXURY HOME (SERVICE APPARTMENTS)
3) TULIP APPARTMENT (SERVICE APPARTMENT)
4) GREEN LEAF APARTMENT
5) APARTMENT 18
6) HOTEL PARKLAND
7) HOTEL IMPERIAL
8) HOTEL AMARA
9) HOTEL VELVET APPLE:
10) HOTEL GLITTER

Have I mentioned already just how grateful I would be? XXXXXXXXXX..............

Svelte- great, but when taxes and oher fees added in its EXPENSIVE, but hey its your budget and comfort
Tulip House- looks good to me
ILH- I guess is ok, but no kithen only the one teh cook is in, i would need something to wash bottles and heat stuff up like a microwave and stuff
Green Leaf- very nice, the one we wanted was taken and not sure about the 6 others he has but you can inquire- LOOKS GOOD THOUGH!
All the hotels look great in my book but i need some sort of kitchenette for baby reasons...and IF we get a nurse for a few nights just to show us the ropes i may need a seperate area for her because she aint staying in my bed..lol

  5. If all else fails google 'agoda delhi' and get prices, photos and user reviews. Often their prices are cheaper than what you can get by going to the hotel direct! Good luck!

  6. We are booked into GreenLeaf in Kalkaji. It is near both clinic and some shoppingmalls. You have to take a taxi though.

There are also some great restaurants in m-block in GK 2, and it is also very near.

Would be great to get some neighbours!!!

Good luck with booking your apartment.

    When are you going?

  7. We stayed in Svelte on the first visit. I was very happy there. It's connected to a mall which could be very convenient - baby store, convenience store, restaurants etc. When we go back for baby pick up in December (hopefully - fingers crossed) we plan to stay here again.

  8. I love Svelte. We've stayed here both times. Slightly more expensive but clean, bedroom plus lounge and kitchenette, service is incredible, excellent breakfast and we all take food back for the rest of the day so you really only need dinner-- which you can get at one of the million places in the mall attached to the hotel. When you have a baby (which I finally do today)you want to avoid the outdoors as much as possible and Svelte makes it possible.

  9. HAHAHAHA. I love the name Hotel Glitter. I have zero idea how it is.

  10. ILH BnB is ok...not ideal as there is no kitchen. Its cheap tho and if you dont mind washing up in the bathroom then it is ok. Also, it is a 2 minute walk to MBlock market (GK1).
We also stayed at Shervani Nehru Place - nice place, rooftop pool, but rooms are smallish - but clean and room service was good as well bfast buffet.

  11. Oh Guys you are ALL sooooo wonderful!! I had faith in you and you've come up with the goods - super fast too!! Thank you ALL sooooo much! Please keep 'em coming - I will be checking your responses frequently now in the lead up to "Booking Time" (another 2-3 weeks). And to answer Fredrik our 'very-rough-easily-changed' departure date (ex Australia) at this stage due to the fact that I haven't--actually-booked-our-flights-either is between Sunday July 22nd and Sunday July 29th. Our Surrogate will be '40 weeks' on August 14th. XX

  12. Hey Jacaranda

I wouldnt stay at Apartment 18 (the level of cleanliness and responsiveness leaves a lot to be desired) It is unfortunate as it is in a good location albeit on a main road and very noisy. The Svelte is beautiful. I dont know what Tulip House is like or Park Residences but since we got news that we might be having 4 I am probably moving away from the Svelte for baby pick up as wont be big enough unless we get interconnecting rooms (2 bedroom and studio ) and then it just becomes too expensive. Good Luck

  13. Thanks for your congrats on our news! We stayed at ILH BnB in Jan and left early as renovations were making it impossible to sleep. Another IP who was on her own there was relocated to ILH apartments on the day of her egg collection as the owner had double booked her room even though she had already paid in full for her stay at the BnB before hand! She only stayed at the apartments until she slept off her procedure pretty much and then left as she was really unhappy there - too noisy. We looked at a single room at the Svelte when we were there and it was lovely. Clean, spacious, quiet and very friendly staff who were only too happy to help us with a cot etc when we came back - I think they could spot us IP's a mile away and preempted most of our Q's. It's a fair bit of coin to shell out but well worth it, especially the convenience of the mall and food. Goodluck with booking!

  14. We could be on the same flight and you may need to 'bunk'with us @ Svelte!! lol!
Again - I'd choose Hilton Garden Inn or Svelte - connected to the Mall, safe area and the air-con and general'peace & quiet'were the main reasons we chose Svelte. If we end up going earlier I'll be staying @ the Hilton then moving over!!. The only negatives would be - COST & distance from the Clinic and I presume the Hospital and Embassy's.

  15. So sorry about your plans for lunch going wrong. We stayed in Hilton Garden Inn and it was beautiful but it looks like Svelte rooms are bigger with kitchen area. I agree with Saskia - i like svelte for the same reasons of air con and safe. All kinds of restaurants on your doorstep and baby store which is handy. And, thanks for all your good wishes!!Best wishes K and J

  16. Don't you hate it when you've planned something for so long and it gets buggered up like that!
Re accommodation I stayed at svelte both times and loved it, staff so friendly, they provide cots and as Bernadette said you don't have to take bubs outside to go food shopping, baby shopping etc. I would ask for room with bath, especially to do washing in. Thats the only bummer laundry is expensive. I love it esp for baby pickup coz it's sooo roomy and I don't want bubs outdoors too much with the dust and mozzies :)

  17. We have only done the one trip to Delhi and stayed at Svelte. It was great as everyone says, clean, large rooms and attached to air con mall. I saw a comment about expensive laundry, we asked Rahul the dirver to sort a bag of laundry out for us and entire bag cost 350 rupees, so quite cheap...good luck with your preparations.
